How We Use Our Resources

It is the responsibility of the Prescott Meals on Wheels Board of Directors to obtain financing and oversee the financial condition of the organization.  This fiduciary responsibility is not taken lightly and every care is taken to see that all resources, monetary and otherwise are used in the most effective manner possible.

Wherever possible, food is obtained through the generous contribution of local businesses.  In addition, our organization belongs to a cooperative of similar organizations to obtain the best possible pricing for food items.

We distribute and use food obtained at no charge through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Emergency Food Assistance Program and the Arizona Commodity Supplement Food Program.

When the Community Center was built in 2007, Prescott Meals on Wheels was asked to contribute $100,000 to the building costs.  In exchange for that, we occupy our space in the center at no charge, paying only for the costs of utilities and upkeep.  This contribution completely eliminated the reserves built up over the organization’s 35 year existence.

We are now trying to re-build our reserve fund to survive the cycle of funding that community service non-profit organizations such as ours experience.  In addition the Board of Directors has established a goal of creating an endowment fund that will provide some degree of stability in funding.
